ABOUT US

You are invited to become a member of the Oxford International Women’s Festival Collective

The first Oxford International Women’s Festival was held in March 1990. A Collective of local women has organised the Festival each year since then around International Women’s Day, 8 March. There are usually about 50 events in the Festival organised by 45 local organisations and attended by around 8,000 people.

Our aims are –

To celebrate the creativity of women through theatre, music, talks, exhibitions, workshops, discussion groups, dance performance and social activities.

To highlight women’s local, national and international issues, to support women and organisations who are campaigning for equal rights and to celebrate women’s achievements.

Membership

Membership of the Women’s Collective is open to all women, women’s groups, and organisations based in Oxford who wish to participate in the Festival.

All organisations who send delegates to meetings of the Women’s Collective and
who put on events as part of the Festival each year are members of the Collective.

Individual women can also become members of the Collective

The fees for annual membership are: £15 for organisations, £10 for individuals, £5 for unwaged members.

Meetings

The Women’s Collective meets approx. 8 times a year in Oxford Town Hall to plan the programme of events for the coming year. Members receive notification of each meeting at least two weeks beforehand.

The International Women’s Festival includes women from all races, backgrounds and interest groups and is committed to working with women’s groups and individual women of all ages, races, cultural and economic backgrounds throughout Oxford. The Collective actively encourages women from Asian, African-Caribbean, lesbian and travelling backgrounds, as well as women who are physically challenged, to put on events. The Collective’s aims are to highlight women’s local, national and international issues, to support women who are campaigning for equal rights and to celebrate women’s achievements.

We welcome new members and the opportunity to widen the scope of the Festival
